Often times in MMA we hear people protest fights perceived to be premature referee stoppages and most, if not all of the time it's when the other fighter went down after getting hit hard.
At UFC's TUF Finale Brazil 3, the fight between Mark Eddiva and Edmilson Souza was awarded with the Fight of the Night Honors, giving USD50K bonuses to both combatants.
Eddiva lost the fight via TKO Referee stoppage. In the second round he was hit and went on the defensive and still Standing when veteran referee Herb Dean stopped the fight with only 8 seconds left in the round. I think it's the first time an mma fight was stopped with the losing fighter still standing.
I won't congratulate GSP in many of his W's, but as an MMA fan I'll always appreciate great efforts, with or without bonus.
To each his own, but I believe Mark Eddiva deserved that bonus and the respect, plus perhaps even a rematch with Souza. He proved in this fight that he belongs to the octagon and obviously, the UFC liked what they saw from him and we expect more exciting fights in the future.
