Only one week removed from my biggest event shoot at One Fighting Championship Rise of Kings, I jumped at an opportunity to shoot another indoor sports event this past weekend. A Badminton Tournament organized by Sing Phil Enterprises in cooperation with PinoyShuttleCockers (PSC) was held at Pasir Ris Sports and Recreation center.
I covered the event for Beyond Photography Productions along with officers/mods Arnel de Leon and Reyner Red Velasco. The event's participants came from different Badminton Teams, each of them consisting of Filipinos based in Singapore. The teams are: Hadab Addicts, Hotshots, Kigwa Badminton Group, LakLakers, Pasir Ris Dabarkads, PinoySG Badminton Club, Pinoy Shuttle Cockers, Pinoy Shuttlers, Samahang Pinoy Racqueteers, SG Badminton Limited and Tropang Smashers.
As expected for an indoor gymnasium the lighting was a bit warm and a little bit dim.
And I thought it was pretty common sense that the shuttle cockers (players) wouldn't want camera flash to distract them while they try their best to win in the fastest racquet sports. So I brought with me my ever reliable 85mm f1.8, and my zoom lens Tamron 17-50 f2.8 for this shoot.

Also as expected, the gym didn't have any air-conditioning. So during the lull periods I've been constantly wiping the sweat off my eyebrows, while being on the lookout for some interesting shots or action from the players or from the audience.
The championship matches were very intense and exciting "toe-to-toe" battle.
They say Badminton is the fastest racquet sports. Although I've never shot any other racquet sport before, in order to make a comparison. But perhaps I can base from the photos I captured and it will be safe for me to say that it is indeed a fast sport. I had to shoot with both eyes open, always on alert mode for players diving for the shuttle cock. I would love to do this kind of shoot again.
All-in-all it was an exciting event shoot, as I enjoyed watching the games as well.
Congratulations to the event organizers, sponsors, participants and to the winners! For more photos, latest info and game results, visit their website here.
